“We might be at odds, hate each other, and desire each other’s destruction, but in our despair, we are lost in the same darkness, breathing the same air as we choke on our grief.”
Goodreads Description:

"In the wake of tragedy, neither Lazlo nor Sarai are who they were before. One a god, the other a ghost, they struggle to grasp the new boundaries of their selves as dark-minded Minya holds them hostage, intent on vengeance against Weep.

Lazlo faces an unthinkable choice—save the woman he loves, or everyone else?—while Sarai feels more helpless than ever. But is she? Sometimes, only the direst need can teach us our own depths, and Sarai, the Muse of Nightmares, has not yet discovered what she's capable of.

As humans and godspawn reel in the aftermath of the citadel's near fall, a new foe shatters their fragile hopes, and the mysteries of the Mesarthim are resurrected: Where did the gods come from, and why? What was done with thousands of children born in the citadel nursery? And most important of all, as forgotten doors are opened and new worlds revealed: Must heroes always slay monsters, or is it possible to save them instead?

Love and hate, revenge and redemption, destruction and salvation all clash in this astonishing and heart-stopping sequel to the New York Times bestseller, Strange the Dreamer." -goodreads

Review

It's rare for me to read and finish half a book in one sitting but this book was SO INCREDIBLE. I'm in awe of how carefully Laini Taylor crafted such a magical world. Every second of reading this book brought me through a roller coaster of so many emotions. It literally took my breath away! Laini Taylor's writing carried a poetic feel in it and every word of the book was so carefully crafted. Although because of this, the read was a little heavy, like most high fantasy books. Some parts of the book felt a little slowly paced, but the story line totally made up for that! Laini threw in so many different twists and turns that brought the reader through a magical journey following an incredible main character, Sarai.

Speaking of Sarai, she has grown so, so much. The development of all the characters was an element that really shone through this book. There were definitely certain characters that I didn't expect to like but that changed as the book progressed. As if that wasn't enough, Laini Taylor also threw in two new characters that was followed by an incredible back story of how they came to be.

Usually in most books, I would be able to predict all the plot twists and turns, but that was not the case with The Muse of Nightmares. It is so incredible seeing how every single word in the book carried a meaning so deep. Her writing is magical. Literally! It flowed well for the most part and the magical story could not have been told better in any possible way than in Laini Taylor's way.

This is exactly how you write a sequel. You make it heart wrenching, emotional, magical,  and tear jerking. Now THAT'S how you capture a reader's interest. I've waiting so long for this book to come out that I was afraid that I would forget the world and atmosphere but I was absolutely wrong. From the moment I stepped back into the magical world that Laini created, it was almost like I got a sense of familiarity. Laini reintroduces the readers back into the world without the readers even noticing. That's how skilled she is.

If you haven't figured it out already, I ABSOLUTELY  LOVED this book! It was like a journey that never got dull, filled with amazing and unique characters, that added THAT much more to the developing storyline. every twist and turn was not predictable which gave the book an element of surprise and built the book up to what it is today, a story filled with wonders.
