Goodreads Description:

“In this third book in the Lunar Chronicles, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, now with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they're plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army.

Their best hope lies with Cress, a girl imprisoned on a satellite since childhood who's only ever had her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker. Unfortunately, she's just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.

When a daring rescue of Cress goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a higher price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing prevent her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only hope the world has.”- from Goodreads

"You're asking the cyborg fugitive and the wild animal to be the welcoming committee? That's adorable."

My Thoughts

After flying through this book, I think it's safe to say that so far, Cress is my favorite out of the series. Cinder and Scarlet seemed more of like an introduction to the series but Cress was when the plot begins to unfold and and things begin take place. Reading this book, I could tell that Marissa Meyer's writing really improved throughout her books. The writing in Cress in so much more in depth and detailed than the other two books. It was the way the book was written that kept me up all night! It constantly kept me in suspense and was a definite page turner! The balance between reality and retelling really impressed me! Especially because Marissa Meyer captures multiple retellings in one story. I also really enjoyed the many different POVs in this book! It allowed me to enter the mind of each character and see what they were really going through. With that being said, the ending was fantastic! It was the perfect ending to a great book and it made me want to get my hands on the next book immediately and devour it! This book was wonderful in so many different ways, it was shocking, adventurous, well-written, and frustrating in the best way ever!

Cress, our new protagonist is really different from the other characters. Unlike Cinder and Scarlet, Cress more "girly" in a way. Don't let that fool you though, because there is so much more to her! She may come across as timid and naive, but she is a brilliant hacker. Judging by how long she was isolated on a satallite, she is also socially awkward around others, which makes the story so much more entertaining! I am really looking forward to when she comes out of her shell more!

Cinder, Scarlet, Wolf, Kai and Thorne are just as heroic as always. I love the fact that they have such different personalities, yet they could all work together. Cinder really accepted who she is in this book and with that, she became more determined to take down Levana. Scarlet didn't really come across as likable in this book to me, but she did become more fiercer. After losing her grandmother in the previous book, I feel like she grew into the warrior that she is now. I also found Wolf really hard to like in this book. He was just really reserved and I didn't really get to know him like the other characters. During a majority of this book, I felt really bad for Kai because there was so much weight on his shoulders! He basically had a choice of either marrying Levana the DEMON or not marry her and watch everyone die. Poor thing. Then we have Captain Thorne! He's a bit of a jerk but Marissa develops his character in a way that readers won't hate him. He basically has most of the qualities that make up a perfect character! He's hilarious, chivalrous, skilled, clever, and stunningly good looking. Lastly, we have our queen of Sass Iko. Iko, our main character Cinder's, best friend, really lightens the mood of the story, and like Thorne, she is one of the sillier characters. She may not be human, but she certainly has the best personality ever.

Levana was beyond evil in this book. She wants everyone to love her, yet she's impossible to love. She is, in fact horrify, dreadful, and highly feared. Despite this, I will say that she certainly makes a fantastic villian. I love a good villain worthy to put up with our protagonists.

Overall, I thought this book was really enjoyable! Despite it being the biggest book of the series so far, it certainly flew by faster than the other two books! It consisted of so many more plot twists, and the characters were extraordinary in their own way! I will definitely be picking up the next book!
